Woodshop Assistant
Under the direct supervision of the vocational instructor, the candidate will assist the vocational instructor in the woodshop and the classroom, to prepare the students to meet the demands of the modern construction trades workplace. Essential tasks and responsibilities include assisting in daily planning of shop projects and related instruction, monitoring the activities of small groups of students, monitoring students in completing shop tasks, providing support in the Career and Technical Construction Trades Program by assisting students in the teaching and learning process, assisting in the maintenance of individual records for each student, helping to maintain discipline under supervision of the teacher, assisting the vocational technical instructor in maintaining a safe and clean work environment, assisting the vocational technical instructor in breaking down shop competencies, tasks and projects for diverse learners, assisting the vocational technical instructor to develop appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of all students, providing assistance to the classroom instructor with the delivery of quality career and technical programming to all students, driving students to and from worksites and school events if needed, assisting students in understanding and working with construction trades processes and equipment, planning, preparing, and organizing supplemental course materials as needed, working with students to reinforce objectives of the course, and documenting student progress and skill attainment for required skills.
Knowledge of the competencies and skills required of students in the construction trades technical areas, including but not limited to: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and craftsmanship construction. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Ability to establish relationships and effectively communicate with students, staff and other stakeholders. Ability to organize and coordinate work based projects.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Qualifications:
Must have 60 college hours - OR - successfully have passed the Paraprofessional Exam. Successful completion of all background checks. NCCER, NOCTI, and OSHA
10 certifications preferred. Contract Days: 180. Salary:
Classified Paraprofessional Salary Schedule.
