ESL Paraprofessional

Assists a certified teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment; assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans; and provides routine support. Performs all duties under the direct supervision of a certified teacher.

Essential tasks and responsibilities:

  • Assist with the coordination of the K-12 ESL program
  • Assist with the scheduling of services with children
  • Assist with parent/teacher conferences of ESL families
  • Assist with the ESL program in any area requested by the ESL coordinator
  • Provide push-in and pull-out English Language Services as needed
  • Attend relevant EL training
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers in implementing EL services
  • Attend EL Department meetings
  • Supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, hallways, playground, and during bus loading/unloading activities
  • Ensure the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; maintain the learning environment in a safe, orderly, and clean manner
  • Adhere to all District policies
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in the areas of developmentally appropriate programming and daily classroom management
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
  • Ability to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as needed
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 60 college hours required on transcript
  • OR successfully pass the Paraprofessional Proficiency Assessment
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Successful completion of all background checks

Contract Days: 180 days Salary:
