The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. This role oversees preventive maintenance programs, manages refrigerant handling, and coordinates field teams to optimize equipment performance. The position requires detailed documentation, vendor coordination, and participation in on-call rotations to support critical business needs. The Senior Technician also mentors team members, supports process improvements, and contributes to special projects, driving operational excellence and reliability across facility services.
WhatYou'll Do...
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
- Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues to ensure optimal system performance.
- Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
- Manage refrigerant handling and compliance with OSHA, EPA, and HVAC/R codes.
- Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating skill development.
- Maintain parts inventory, vendor relationships, and service schedules to meet business priorities.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support critical operational needs outside regular hours.
- Proven expertise in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in commercial and industrial environments.
- Experience leading field teams, mentoring technicians, and managing escalated service challenges effectively.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
- Ability to manage parts inventory, vendor relationships, and coordinate service calls to meet business priorities.
- Skilled in documenting work orders, maintenance logs, and submitting accurate reports.
- Commitment to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement in facility services operations.
Option 1: 3 years' experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration. Option 2: 6 years' experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling. Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman. 1 year's experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years' Walmart store experience.
Valid state-issued driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report. Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years. Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years. No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate's of applied science A/C and refrigeration., Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)., Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams., Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment., Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.
