B&P Manufacturing is a leading manufacturer of material handling equipment, including hand trucks, carts, ramps, and dollies. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of the entire accounting function and partnering with leadership to support business success.

Position Summary

The Controller serves as the company’s primary accounting and financial professional, responsible for performing and managing all day-to-day accounting activities as well as monthly financial reporting and analysis. This is a hands-on position within a one-person accounting department.

The Controller oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, month-end close activities, financial reporting, budgeting support, cash management, and coordination with external accountants and auditors. The position works closely with the President and department managers to support sound financial decision-making and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and strong internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and vendor account reconciliations.
  • Manage all accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, collections, cash applications, and customer account reconciliations.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Coordinate and complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Monitor company cash flow and assist with cash management activities.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and company policies.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and reporting requirements with external CPA firms and consultants.
  • Develop and maintain accounting procedures, internal controls, and process improvements.
  • Support inventory accounting and manufacturing cost tracking.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records.

Team Collaboration

  • Partner with company leadership to provide financial analysis and business insights.
  • Collaborate with operations, customer service, production, purchasing, shipping, and sales departments to support company objectives.
  • Learn and utilize the company’s Sage ERP system and other internal software tools.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives focused on process improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in strategic planning discussions and business performance reviews.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of manufacturing accounting best practices and financial regulations.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience completing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage an entire accounting function.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.

Preferred

  • Manufacturing accounting experience.
  • Experience with Sage ERP or similar ERP systems.
  • Experience with inventory and cost accounting.
  • Previous experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant role.
  • CPA designation or CPA candidate status (but not required.)
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Compensation & Benefits

Negotiable and competitive compensation ranging from $85, per year based on qualifications and experience. B&P Manufacturing offers a full benefits package including: medical, optical, dental, paid vacation/holidays and 401K with matching. This position is Monday-Thursday (10 hour days) or Monday-Friday (8 hour days), full time with a minimum of 40 hours per week, additional hours may be required periodically to meet deadlines.
