Wolverine Power Cooperative is seeking two Associate Transmission System Operators (ATSOs) to join our Energy Control Center team in Cadillac, Michigan. This role is ideal for individuals with strong technical aptitude who are eager to learn, grow, and play a critical role in maintaining the safe and reliable operation of Michigan's electric grid.
As an ATSO, you'll work alongside experienced, NERC-certified System Operators to develop the skills needed to monitor and operate Wolverine's transmission system, respond to system events, and support compliance with industry reliability standards.
What You'll DoIn this role, you'll gain hands-on experience in:
- Monitoring and supporting the operation of Wolverine's transmission system
- Learning switching procedures and outage coordination processes
- Utilizing advanced control systems, including SCADA technology
- Assisting with outage response and system restoration efforts
- Coordinating with field personnel, member cooperatives, and neighboring utilities
- Supporting NERC compliance activities and maintaining operational records
- Developing the knowledge and skills needed to become a certified Transmission System Operator
We are seeking candidates with strong technical aptitude who meet one or more of the following qualifications:
- Associate degree in a technical or business-related field such as engineering, science, mathematics, accounting, or marketing
- Three or more years of system operator experience in an electric utility control center
- Completion of a certified electrical apprenticeship program
- Two or more years of electric utility experience with the ability to interpret electrical drawings
- Ability to obtain NERC Certification and pass Wolverine's System Operator test within 12 months
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence directing field personnel during routine operations and emergency situations
- Sound decision-making skills in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments
- Strong computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets, databases, and email systems
- Basic algebra and analytical problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently while maintaining focus and attention to detail
- Ability to distinguish colors and accurately interpret charts, diagrams, and system data
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and occasional emergency call-ins
