Overview
Lead daily grain operations at a high-volume river facility in Cahokia, where safety, coordination, and execution drive performance across truck, rail, and barge movements. This job is primarily responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations at the assigned location ensuring safe, consistent, efficient and profitable operations. The role includes management of location staff, staffing, logistics, inventory, maintenance, efficiency, quality, and customer service, and promoting a positive image within the local community.
Inthis job, you will
- Supervise employees in all activities for all applicable operations at the assigned location (e.g., grain and terminal, soybean plant, etc.).
- Be ultimately responsible for assigned location results; work with location management to ensure operations are optimally profitable; develop location benchmarks, report on location results and develop improvement plans for areas falling below benchmark.
- Lead and communicate the company safety program to staff; schedule and moderate monthly safety meetings, set safety goals and work with safety team to ensure they are achieved, monitor and perform safety behaviors and audits.
- Ensure employees perform duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations; wear appropriate PPE; assist management to ensure environmental controls and procedures are managed where applicable.
- Work with management to develop and revise budget forecasts with input from other responsible departments where applicable.
- Oversee staffing and job development activities (hiring, staffing/scheduling, training, coaching, performance management, promotions, corrective actions, terminations); develop and manage staff performance expectations aligned with company goals; assist with staffing schedules and direct work duties including vacation time and shift trades.
- Determine need for and schedule Barge/Rail/Grain Inspector as appropriate; where applicable.
- Conduct quality internal audits as required; review, notify management and modify PSM & MOC as necessary where applicable.
- Communicate with applicable departmental staff to ensure collaboration on services (e.g., Marine Services for barge movements, Merchandisers and CTLC for loading/transfer needs), where applicable.
- Ensure staff and facilities comply with all applicable state and federal regulations; take actions to correct or report incidents/findings where applicable.
- Participate in the trainee program; coach trainees through their curriculum and plans/checklists.
- Other duties as assigned, including audits, inventory monitoring, maintenance needs, housekeeping as needed.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent training and work experience. Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or Technical Systems Management.
Required:
3 years' experience in various sides of the specific business unit.
- Working knowledge of location cost structures, mix and blend analysis, safety, efficiency, product quality, preventive maintenance, OSHA, EPA, and location operations including storage, rail and barge handling.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
- Strong decision-making, conflict management, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skills with flexibility to changing priorities.
- Ability to perform job duties of any job supervised at the assigned location.
- Good mechanical skills and ability to understand, interpret, and follow operating and emergency procedures.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and lead staff to accomplish assignments; work effectively in a team environment.
The physical demands and requirements vary by location and operational needs. The environment may be indoor with limited extremes or outdoor in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Typical requirements include balance, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, PPE use, PFT and fit testing where applicable, and the ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts. Some facilities require the ability to pass FRA and DOT testing and to work in confined spaces or on barge surfaces near water.
EnvironmentalConditions
The work environment may be inside or outside across heat, cold, wet, and dry conditions; frequent use of personal protective equipment is required. Travel up to 15% may be required.
CompensationThe expected base pay range for this role is $69,490.00 - $91,433.00. Actual pay offered may vary based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
