Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
This position is a hands‑on role focused on maintaining operations by performing maintenance, inspections, and general labor across facility equipment. The role includes routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and specific skilled maintenance tasks such as electrical, fabrication, welding, cutting, blueprint reading, and carpentry.
Responsibilities- Participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
- Perform daily walk‑throughs of the facility and equipment, plan and prioritize tasks based on facility needs and supervisor input.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company policies to maximize equipment life and reduce downtime.
- Troubleshoot reported or discovered equipment issues; repair or replace defective parts and request assistance as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and supplies required for routine tasks and maintenance.
- Complete documentation accurately, timely and legibly.
- Perform general housekeeping and clean‑up of all work areas.
- Apply industry standards and research information to ensure regulatory compliance.
- When applicable, perform highly skilled maintenance tasks such as electrical, fabrication, welding, cutting, blueprint reading, or carpentry.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent experience. - Experience:
None required; preferred one or more years working in an industrial environment. - License/Certification:
Mechanical Maintenance Certificate preferred. - Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Intermediate to advanced understanding of mechanical maintenance, machines, tools and their designs, uses, repair and maintenance. - Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to accept and follow directions, apply common sense and logical thought processes to interpret communications and recommend alternative solutions to mechanical problems.
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
- Require frequent bending, stooping, twisting, crouching, crawling, kneeling and squatting.
- Involve climbing stairs and ladders to significant heights.
- Require lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. occasionally; may vary with daily needs.
- Require working in confined spaces, on barge surfaces and around railcars.
- Requires ability to work under high dust concentrations and extreme weather conditions.
- May involve extended hours, weekends, holidays and alternate shifts.
- Must be able to use and maintain personal protective equipment.
- Must comply with physical requirements of PFT and fit testing when applicable.
