Process Automation Engineer – Calabasas, CA
Responsibilities- Design, implement, and maintain process automation solutions for pharmaceutical process applications utilizing Emerson Delta
V distributed control system (DCS) - Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications based on ISA‑88 Batch standards
- Integrate Emerson Delta
V systems with process equipment, instruments, and control devices to ensure seamless operation and data exchange - Develop custom control strategies, logic, and sequences using Delta
V programming languages such as Function Block Diagrams and Sequential Function Charts; configure communication protocols (OPC, Modbus) for interfacing with third‑party devices and systems - Conduct thorough testing of Emerson Delta
V configurations to verify system performance, functionality, and compliance with user requirements and regulatory standards - Prepare and execute validation protocols, including IQ/OQ/PQ, and generate documentation in accordance with GMP guidelines
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for Emerson Delta
V systems, addressing alarms, deviations, and process disturbances - Understand aspects of deploying automation systems in IT‑based environments, including server/client virtualization, managed networks, cybersecurity, and domain authentication
- May act as lead on select projects, interfacing directly with clients and providing guidance to junior engineers
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, codes, and standards for each contract and project
- Up to 30% domestic travel as needed and customary for the occupation
- Education:
BS in Electrical or Chemical Engineering preferred - Experience:
5–15 years in relevant areas preferred - Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements governing pharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., FDA, GMP, GAMP)
- Proficiency in Emerson Delta
V programming languages and tools (e.g., Delta
V Function Blocks, Control Studio) - Familiarity with process instrumentation, control valves, and fieldbus communication protocols
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders
Seeing, color perception, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, and ability to mount and dismount equipment, push, and pull.
Working ConditionsStandard office environment, onsite office environment, and diverse industrial environments. Frequent PC usage, copy machines, and phones.
