Position OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Accountant — Affordable Housing to support the financial operations of a growing affordable housing portfolio. This role will work closely with asset managers, joint venture partners, and lenders to ensure accurate reporting, capital management, and compliance across multiple properties and entities.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in real estate accounting, particularly within affordable housing environments.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
- Perform bank reconciliations for multiple property and entity accounts
- Maintain equity, cash flow, and preferred return schedules
- Support quarterly and annual financial analyses
- Collaborate with JV partners and internal teams on reporting requirements
- Participate in financial review calls and respond to inquiries
- Provide financial data and analysis to support decision-making
- Process investor distributions and related approvals
- Manage capital calls and funding requests
- Coordinate lender draws for capital projects and reserves
- Prepare and submit required reports to lenders
- Coordinate property tax payments and filings
- Support sales/use tax and other regulatory filings
- Assist with audits and tax return preparation
- Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis
- Support annual cash flow projections and planning
- Support acquisitions, dispositions, and property transitions
- Assist with bank account setup and closing activities
- Provide accounting support for property management changes
- Handle vendor invoices, payment issues, and related investigations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or affordable housing
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and GAAP
- Experience with investor reporting, distributions, and capital activity
- Proficiency in accounting systems (Real Page or similar a plus)
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
