The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the financial oversight and performance of the affordable housing portfolio. This role partners closely with joint venture partners, asset management teams, and lenders to support accurate financial reporting, capital activity, and ongoing compliance. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast paced, deadline driven environment with a strong understanding of affordable housing operations.
CashManagement and Reconciliations
- Download, review, and reconcile bank statements for rehabilitation and operating accounts
- Perform monthly financial reviews and prepare schedules requested by JV partners, including ETL mapping and member equity schedules
- Participate in monthly JV calls or respond to financial questionnaires as needed
- Prepare and maintain preferred interest schedules and cash flow calculations
- Update AMF and CMF schedules, including accounting fee allocations
- Process monthly and quarterly distributions, including wire preparation and approval coordination
- Partner with asset managers on preliminary financials and distribution approvals
- Manage capital calls and lender draw activity for Capex, replacement reserves, repairs, and green improvements
- Maintain and reconcile Capex schedules and reimbursements
- Upload required monthly and quarterly reporting packages to lender portals
- Coordinate payment and filing of real estate and personal property tax obligations
- Prepare and submit quarterly franchise and sales or use tax filings, including certified mail requirements
- Assist with below the line budget items
- Support JV partners with annual and ongoing cash flow projections
- Support acquisition and disposition activity including journal entries, Capex mapping, lender draw setup, and waterfall or proration reviews
- Assist with transitions between property management companies, including chart of accounts mapping
- Prepare financial reporting for housing authorities and respond to audit and tax inquiries
- Manage vendor invoice processing, investigate duplicate payments, and support insurance claim activity
- Establish new bank accounts and preference schedules
- Manage proration, true ups, and amortization billing
- Execute post closing distributions and assist with entity wind downs
- Participate in review calls with asset management, construction management, WHF, and budgeting teams
- Coordinate preparation and delivery of entity tax returns
- Manage physical mailing requirements such as certified tax filings and confirmation letters
- Onboard asset managers to financial processes and systems
- Five or more years of accounting experience, ideally within real estate or affordable housing
- Strong background in financial reporting, reconciliations, and close processes
- Experience managing distributions, capital calls, and lender reporting
- Familiarity with Real Page, Capex GL mapping, and joint venture reporting preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across internal teams and external partners
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and analytical capabilities
