Position OverviewWe are looking for a versatile, organized, and community-driven Assistant Manager to help guide daily operations, run core programs, and support our growing maker community. In this role, you will wear many hats—balancing front-of-house administrative tasks with hands-on workshop facilitation, youth mentorship, and volunteer leadership.
The ideal candidate enjoys community engagement, has an aptitude for creative problem-solving, and is comfortable working with both beginners and experienced makers.
Key Responsibilities1. General Office Management & Administration
- Oversee day-to-day front desk operations, member check-ins, and tour facilitation.
- Monitor office and shop supplies, placing orders and replenishing consumables as needed.
- Manage general member inquiries via email, phone, and walk-ins in a welcoming, timely manner.
- Assist in maintaining shop cleanliness, safety standards, and tool checkout procedures.
- Recruit, onboard, and train makerspace volunteers, lab monitors, and workshop assistants.
- Coordinate monthly volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage during peak open shop hours.
- Recognize, engage, and support volunteers to foster a loyal, active community culture.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate public events, maker showcases, and seasonal community workshops.
- Manage event logistics including space layout, material procurement, registration, and day-of setup/breakdown.
- Partner with guest instructors and community groups to host diverse programming.
- Facilitate and supervise the weekly Teen Club
, creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for middle and high school students. - Design engaging, project-based activities that build practical skills and spark curiosity.
- Serve as a positive mentor, modeling safe tool usage, creative exploration, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Assist members with entry-level digital fabrication equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters).
- Support basic crafting activities (e.g., printmaking, basic woodworking, electronics/soldering, or textiles).
- Enforce shop safety rules and assist with basic equipment upkeep and troubleshooting.
- Manage and create content for Social Medium’s social channels (Instagram, Facebook, newsletter, etc.).
- Showcase member projects, highlight workshops, promote events, and celebrate community accomplishments.
- Help drive membership growth and program awareness through authentic visual storytelling.
Required:
- 1–3 years of experience in administrative support, community center management, education, or event coordination.
- Comfort and familiarity with basic digital fabrication equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters) and/or traditional crafting techniques.
- Demonstrated experience working with youth, teens, or after-school enrichment programs.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational habits with the ability to prioritize diverse tasks independently.
- Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule (20–30 hours/week), including some evenings and weekends.
- Prior experience in a makerspace, community arts hub, library, or shared studio environment.
- Basic photo/video editing or graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
