Overview
The Urgent Care Physician provides prompt, high-quality medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses and minor injuries. This role focuses on efficient patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in a fast-paced urgent care environment, emphasizing patient safety, evidence-based practice, and excellent customer service.
Responsibilities- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute illnesses and non-life-threatening injuries
- Perform medical procedures commonly seen in urgent care settings, including suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, wound care, and foreign body removal
- Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests such as laboratory studies, EKGs, and imaging (e.g., X-ray)
- Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with clinical guidelines
- Provide patient education on diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care
- Triage and stabilize patients and refer to emergency services when higher levels of care are required
- Collaborate with nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and ancillary services
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation in the electronic health record
- Adhere to quality, safety, and regulatory standards
- Participate in quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Completion of an accredited residency program (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics)
- Board eligible or board certified in an applicable specialty
- Active or eligible state medical license
- DEA registration or eligibility
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification;
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
- Strong clinical and procedural skills
- Ability to manage high patient volumes in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to patient-centered, efficient care
- Strong teamwork and adaptability
- Urgent care or walk-in clinic setting
- Variable shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Minimal to no overnight call depending on practice model
MD/DO with board certification in Urgent Care, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine and an active Texas medical license. Strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to providing quality patient care are essential.
