Youth Development
The 4-H STEM Ameri Corps Program provides direct service to youth by delivering high-quality STEAM education and youth development programming throughout the service year. Members facilitate hands-on learning experiences in after school programs, community-based settings, special events, and educational workshops. Through these activities, members help youth develop critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity while fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. Beyond instruction, members serve as mentors and role models.
They create safe, supportive environments where youth can explore new ideas, develop confidence, and build positive relationships. By modeling integrity, empathy, and perseverance, members help youth envision a future filled with opportunity. This mentorship extends beyond academics, encompassing essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and decision-making. Members organize events that bring families into the learning process, fostering stronger connections between youth, parents, and the community.
These events may include STEM fairs, family science nights, and showcases of youth projects, all aimed at reinforcing the value of education and collaboration. Volunteer recruitment and engagement are also key responsibilities. By expanding the network of caring adults involved in youth programs, members amplify the program’s reach and sustainability.
Members facilitate hands-on learning experiences in after school programs, community events, workshops, camps, clubs, and school partnerships. Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, and University of Idaho Extension faculty and staff to expand program reach and impact. Assist with supervising and coordinating youth leaders and teen volunteers during program activities and events. Complete accurate data collection and reporting requirements and support volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement as needed.
Serve as a mentor and positive role model for youth, teaching important life skills and providing meaningful opportunities for exploration, personal growth, and learning in a fun, engaging, and non-formal educational environment.
