The Department of Chemistry at The College of Idaho invites applications for a full-time position to begin August

2027. The position will be filled at the rank of either a Visiting Assistant Professor (1-year appointment) or as a

Lecturer (1-year appointment with possibility of renewal), depending on the successful candidate’s area of

expertise and qualifications. The department is committed to delivering high-quality education and seeks

educators who prioritize undergraduate teaching and mentorship.

A full-time appointment in this position will include teaching multiple lecture and laboratory courses during the

fall and spring semesters as well as the possibility of working with more specialized courses during the college’s

three-week January term. Actual course assignments will be determined based on the candidate's experience

and departmental needs. Special consideration will be given to applicants who can assist with instruction in one

or more of the following lecture/lab combinations:
Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Forensic Science and the

General Chemistry I & II course sequence.

The successful candidate will approach the undergraduate education process with a growth mindset and a

commitment to collaboration with students in the course of their educational journey.

Candidates should possess a terminal degree in chemistry or a closely related field, or an advanced degree in

chemistry or biochemistry and an appropriate combination of professional qualifications and certifications.

Candidates who are ABD will be considered for this position.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States as of the expected hire date and throughout the term

of the contract without sponsorship from the College.

Application packets should include:
  • A cover letter that addresses teaching interests and specifies which area, or areas, of the chemistry curriculum the candidate is qualified to instruct
  • A statement of teaching philosophy that articulates a commitment to liberal arts education
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., syllabi and teaching evaluations)
  • Names and contact information for three professional references, with at least one reference able to speak directly to the candidate's teaching
