Classification Requirements

  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Must have Journeyman plumber license or be able to get the license within a year.
Knowledge
  • Commercial plumbing systems.
  • Current plumbing codes.
  • Light construction methods, including HVAC, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in operation of hand and power tools, plumbing systems, and general building maintenance work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (will vary by assignment)
  • Inspecting plumbing systems and identifying issues that need repair or replacement.
  • Installing pipes and plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets.
  • Repairing or replacing damaged parts in plumbing systems.
  • Clearing obstructions from sink drains and toilets.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks such as checking for leaks and maintaining faucets and fixtures.
  • Responding to plumbing emergencies promptly and efficiently.
  • Interpreting blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials.
  • Providing cost estimates for plumbing services and products.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and building regulations.
  • Maintaining an inventory of plumbing supplies and equipment, scheduling and completing work orders.
  • Calibrating pneumatic testing equipment.
  • Assembling, positioning, and mounting plumbing equipment, following blueprints.
  • Purchasing parts for immediate and future needs, in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  • Studying specifications in blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals and building plans.
  • Estimating amount and kind of materials required and notifying supervisor of the need for materials.
  • Initiating communication with supervisor about needed repairs or status of projects.
  • Performing maintenance and minor repair on tools and equipment.
  • Attending and actively participating in required training classes.
