Job Description
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned.
Reports to and may perform advanced diagnostics under supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. Continuously learns advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. Compliance with company policies and achievements of performance metrics.
Responsibilities / Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, combustion engines (gas & diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck, reconciling periodically.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing assistance, resolving problems, or satisfying expectations.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards; upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) through the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation timely.
- Work independently and manage own daily schedule; maintain high productivity and adhere to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain repair estimate approvals, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain company‑issued service truck; conduct daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years’ experience in a related field, or alternative combinations such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED with 5 years’ experience.
- Must possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Candidate must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
