Responsibilities & Expectations
- Mine engineering: surveying and mapping, capital projects, ground control, ventilation, basic mine construction, and assistance with quality assurance.
- Collecting and analyzing geologic data: QC samples, geologic modeling, trending, and prediction.
- Supervising interns, technicians, and contractors.
- Working closely with mine supervisor, shift supervisors, and mine manager to provide technical support for operations.
- Monitoring ground support: bore scoping, roof inspection, probe drilling, profiling, and notifying the mining team of issues or observed trends.
- Supporting routine QC and geologic data collection and record keeping; working with the quality department to ensure acceptable kiln feed.
- Acting as the step‑up leader when needed to direct mining employees or contractors.
- Championing safety in all aspects of job performance, including leading safety inspections and training.
- Coordinating survey control and overseeing alignment checks; ensuring mapping and survey information complies with LNA standards and is properly archived.
- Updating and publishing mine maps on a routine basis with three‑dimensional locations of mine workings, infrastructure, seam/zone contacts to ensure mining accuracy.
- Preparing periodic (monthly) volumetric and planimetric reports in all active working areas and ore stockpiles for reconciliation, including truck factors, ratio, and other key performance indicators.
- Surveying and tracking quality control data to define ore zone contact and drive improved ore recovery.
- Designing, surveying, and recording blast pattern layouts; keeping bench‑by‑bench electronic records for future reference.
- Owning and involving in mine planning and reconciliation: updating the Short Term Mine Plan (STMP) and developing tactical “14‑Day Dig Maps” to keep operations on budget targets and within the long‑term plan.
- Coordinating with mining team/mine planner to align STMP with Mid Term Mine Plan (MTMP) and Long Term Mine Plan (LTMP).
- Developing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual mine and waste storage plans.
- Communicating with mining team to ensure mine plans align with operating requirements and the long‑term reserve plan.
- Working with geologists, lab managers, and related personnel to adequately define ore bodies, identify deficiencies, and adapt mine plans to geology.
- Ensuring mine plans meet the highest standards for health and safety of mining crews.
- Assisting mine management and operations personnel in adapting plans to day‑to‑day activities.
- Providing operational support to mine crews and mine supervision; capable of filling in for mine supervisors as needed.
- Providing technical support for mine infrastructure development: ensuring power, communications, dewatering, haul roads, etc., function as planned.
- Giving guidance on effective management and planning of mine infrastructure; assisting in troubleshooting infrastructure and larger equipment issues.
- Ensuring mine infrastructure compliance with MSHA regulations.
- Leading project management: carrying a proposed project through detailed engineering to financial closure after construction, including documentation, drawing updates, and cost estimation.
- Ensuring projects are built on reasonable assumptions, coordinating project discussions, and aligning expectations across the organization.
- Coordinating with construction vendors to secure expected scheduling of project execution, meeting compliance, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Applying design standards to assure compliance and quality, and developing cost estimates or directing engineering firms for estimates.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Experience with CAD‑based computer software.
- Experience with GPS survey equipment.
- Technical competence in the field is required.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, presentation skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to give constructive guidance to subordinates and operate effectively with maintenance personnel.
