Alabama Power is seeking an Environmental Specialist I to support environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, field sampling, permitting, and sustainability initiatives.

This role will work with internal teams, regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to help maintain compliance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements while minimizing environmental impacts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support environmental sampling, monitoring, compliance, and reporting activities.
  • Assist with biological studies, water-quality assessments, and other environmental field work.
  • Support environmental permitting and regulatory documentation.
  • Review data, identify potential compliance issues, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, consultants, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate field records, sampling documentation, reports, and compliance files.
  • Support multiple environmental projects and sustainability initiatives.
  • Operate power boats and watercraft for field sampling and monitoring activities.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Fisheries, Ecology, or a closely related field.
  • 1–5 years of experience in environmental sampling, biological studies, water-quality testing, or environmental compliance.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Experience operating boats or watercraft.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to perform outdoor field work in varying weather conditions.
