Position Overview
The Apprentice B Lineman position utilizes heavy equipment operation knowledge in the construction and maintenance of our nation’s Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems.

Typical physical demands include standing, walking, using hands to handle and feel, reaching with arms, performing rigorous physical labor, climbing different types of structures (wood, steel), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Team‑members frequently lift or move objects in excess of 50 lbs. Required vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WorkEnvironment
Team‑members may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, extreme conditions, and loud noise. Work is performed outdoors and is subject to diverse weather conditions.
General Expectations- Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License or permit within 60 days of hire
- Operate heavy equipment used in powerline construction
- Read, write and communicate effectively
- Travel long distances on short notice when required
- Work for extended periods in various locations when required
- Lif in excess of 50 lbs
- Work overtime and outside normal schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de‑energized overhead work
- Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- String overhead wire, set poles and anchors
- Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches and switch gear
- Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems
- Work with energized high‑voltage systems requiring skill and care
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order
- Perform rigorous physical labor
- Use the company radio properly
- Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying
- Use hand tools properly and maintain them
- Receive and follow directions
- Have a basic knowledge of materials used in line work
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit
- Understand induced voltage
- Assist with installation and hookup of a single‑phase transformer
- Perform basic bucket rescue/escape
- Understand equipment setup and grounding concepts
- Work at heights and/or confined spaces
- Understand minimum approach distance
- Understand excavation and shoring requirements
- Check voltage on transformers
- Install and remove a service
- Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) with necessary tools
- Use Kellum grips appropriately
- Identify different types of materials used in line work
- Work outdoors in inclement weather
- Perform all related work as required to complete the job
