The Traffic Specialist III supports transportation and logistics operations by coordinating the movement of materials and equipment in both routine and emergency situations
. This role partners closely with internal customers, carriers, and suppliers to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective transportation solutions while maintaining strict adherence to DOT regulations and safety standards
.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in transportation services, freight invoice review, carrier coordination
, and regulated material movement within a utility or industrial environment.
- Assist internal customers with transportation and logistics needs
- Resolve transportation and routing issues efficiently
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Maintain strong working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
- Ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment during both routine operations and emergency events
- Review and approve freight invoices for accuracy
- Maintain knowledge of carrier contracts to help maximize freight savings
- Support transportation planning for time-sensitive and critical shipments
- Accredited college degree
(High school diploma with equivalent experience acceptable) - Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in transportation or logistics
- Prior experience in the transportation services field
- Experience reviewing and approving freight invoices
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- College degree preferred
- Experience supporting utility, generation, transmission, or distribution operations
- Familiarity with utility equipment, materials, and logistics requirements
- General knowledge of logistics routing for routine and emergency situations
- Knowledge of:
- DOT regulations
- NMFC classifications
- Carrier operations
- Experience with:
- Air freight
- Truckload, LTL, and Hotshot services
- OS/OW (Over-Size / Over-Weight) regulations
- International freight movement
- Parcel and small package transportation
- Knowledge of hazmat and radioactive material transportation
- Demonstrated commitment to safety excellence
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills

- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
