The Traffic Specialist III supports transportation and logistics operations by coordinating the movement of materials and equipment in both routine and emergency situations. This role partners closely with internal customers, carriers, and suppliers to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective transportation solutions while maintaining strict adherence to DOT regulations and safety standards.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in transportation services, freight invoice review, carrier coordination, and regulated material movement within a utility or industrial environment.
Primary Responsibilities- Assist internal customers with transportation and logistics needs
- Resolve transportation and routing issues efficiently
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Maintain strong working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
- Ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment during both routine operations and emergency events
- Review and approve freight invoices for accuracy
- Maintain knowledge of carrier contracts to help maximize freight savings
- Support transportation planning for time-sensitive and critical shipments
- Accredited college degree (High school diploma with equivalent experience acceptable)
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in transportation or logistics
- Prior experience in the transportation services field
- Experience reviewing and approving freight invoices
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- College degree preferred
- Experience supporting utility, generation, transmission, or distribution operations
- Familiarity with utility equipment, materials, and logistics requirements
- General knowledge of logistics routing for routine and emergency situations
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, NMFC classifications, carrier operations
- Experience with air freight, truckload, LTL, and hotshot services, OS/OW (Over-Size / Over-Weight) regulations, international freight movement, parcel and small package transportation
- Knowledge of hazmat and radioactive material transportation
- Demonstrated commitment to safety excellence
