Position Overview

Concorde Education is seeking an engaging, student-centered Digital Music Production Instructor to facilitate a short-format after-school enrichment course for students. This course introduces learners to foundational music production concepts using accessible, school-approved digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Band Lab, Soundtrap, or Garage Band, depending on site technology. Students learn how to create original music through beat-making, looping, recording, arranging, and basic mixing techniques while developing listening skills, creativity, and collaboration habits.

Instruction should be age-appropriate, classroom-friendly, and aligned with site policies for technology use and content. The instructor will deliver instruction across a typical 10-week cycle, with pacing adapted to student needs and site logistics.

What You Will Teach

Students will learn the fundamentals of producing a complete track, including rhythm and beat construction, layering instruments, chord progressions and melodies (intro level), arranging a song structure, and refining sound through basic editing and mixing. Depending on equipment and permissions, students may also record vocals or instruments and learn appropriate microphone and headphone etiquette.

Major Topics Can Include
  • Introduction to the DAW (Band Lab/Soundtrap/Garage Band): interface, tracks, loops, MIDI, and timeline basics
  • Tempo, time signatures (intro level), and building drum patterns
  • Loop-based composition and layering (drums, bass, chords, melody)
  • Basic music theory for producers (rhythm, scales, chords—intro level)
  • Song structure and arrangement (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, outro)
  • Recording basics (vocals/instruments as available), editing takes, and timing correction (intro level)
  • < and synth/instrument exploration
  • Effects and processing basics (EQ concepts, reverb, delay—intro level)
  • Mixing fundamentals (levels, balance, panning, avoiding clipping)
  • Collaboration workflows (shared projects, respectful feedback, roles)
  • Digital citizenship and copyright basics (originality, appropriate samples/loops, attribution when required)
  • Exporting/sharing audio safely within school guidelines
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a 10-session course with clear objectives and engaging, hands-on instruction
  • Teach students how to create and refine original music projects using the site’s available DAW platform
  • Provide structured demonstrations and scaffolds for beginners while extending advanced learners
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive environment that supports creativity, collaboration, and respectful critique
  • Support students with basic troubleshooting (logins, headphones, track setup, exporting) within the scope of site tech expectations
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde program contacts regarding attendance and session completion tracking
  • Adapt pacing and activities to match student readiness and available technology while maintaining course outcomes
Qualifications (Required)
  • Minimum of 60 college credits (or Associate degree in progress/completed)
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one DAW:
Band Lab, Soundtrap, Garage Band, or similar
  • Comfort teaching foundational music production concepts to beginners
  • Experience working with school-age students in structured settings (school, camp, after-school, tutoring, youth programs)
  • Strong facilitation skills, clear communication, and comfort leading creative project-based instruction
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional; able to follow school policies and program boundaries
  • Comfort supporting students on Chromebooks, iPads, or school-issued devices, depending on the site setup
