First-Year Admissions Evaluator & Coordinator (Student Services Professional II)

The First-Year Admissions Evaluator & Coordinator plays an important role in welcoming the next generation of students at San Diego State University, Imperial Valley by helping determine admission eligibility for first-time freshman applicants. This position carefully reviews applications, transcripts, and academic coursework to ensure applicants meet CSU admission requirements while providing knowledgeable support to students, families, and high school counselors throughout the process.

The role also evaluates applications requiring specialized review, including international coursework and special admission populations. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented, student-centered professional who enjoys analyzing academic records, solving complex eligibility questions, and helping students take an important step toward their college journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate first-year applications, high school transcripts, GPA, and college preparatory coursework to determine CSU admission eligibility.
  • Review applications requiring specialized processing, including international coursework, compact programs, and other special admission populations.
  • Interpret and apply CSU and university admission and residency policies while exercising independent judgment to resolve eligibility questions.
  • Respond to applicants, families, and high school counselors regarding admission requirements, residency, application status, and related processes.
  • Maintain accurate applicant records and documentation using student information systems, databases, and other admissions technologies.

Position Information

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in Imperial Valley in Calexico, CA which is located two hours east of the San Diego campus.

SDSU Imperial Valley serves as a vital regional campus of San Diego State University, dedicated to providing high-quality higher education to the desert areas of southeastern California. As an integral unit of the university, it operates under the same rigorous academic standards, governance structure, and institutional policies as the main San Diego campus. Established in 1959 by the California State Legislature, the college has a long-standing history of community impact.

Today, it operates across two distinct locations in Imperial County:
Calexico Campus & Brawley Campus. SDSU Imperial Valley is committed to student success, offering a diverse array of academic pathways designed to help matriculated students achieve their professional and educational goals. Our curriculum includes:
Four-year and two-year undergraduate degrees, graduate-level degree programs and post-baccalaureate teaching and professional credential programs. Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field;
