Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Library Technician to join our client's resource team in Calgary, AB. In this role you will support daily library operations by providing cataloguing expertise, reference support, information retrieval, and collection maintenance. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while delivering high-quality service to internal and external clients.

This role requires experience creating bibliographic records, using cataloguing databases, supporting library projects, and performing both technical and clerical library duties in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:
  • Create complete and accurate bibliographic records when none exist, including physical description, authorship, standardized subject terms, and classification notation.
  • Catalog and classify library materials using electronic cataloguing systems and established standards.
  • Assign subject descriptors, cross-references, and added entries.
  • Process regulatory documents, hearing indices, and related materials for dissemination or further action.
  • Identify materials for repair, restoration, or disposal and assist with preparation according to established library guidelines.
  • Provide frontline service as the first point of contact, handling inquiries, resolving routine issues, and escalating complex requests.
  • Conduct reference interviews and assist clients in navigating automated library systems.
  • Retrieve information across multiple media formats and from current and archived collections.
  • Maintain the library's physical and digital collections, including books, multimedia, and electronic resources.
  • Support mail handling, collection upkeep, and general administrative library tasks.
  • Track and maintain statistics on reference services, acquisitions, distribution, and other activity areas.
  • Manage incoming email communication: assess urgency, prioritize, and coordinate responses.
  • Research background information, extract relevant data, and provide summaries to team members and clients.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports on acquisitions, catalogues, budgets, and library activities.
  • Provide technical input and support for library projects and initiatives
Qualifications:
  • Current or eligibility for Government of Canada Reliability Status is mandatory for this role.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to self-correct and identify errors proactively.
  • Excellent multi-tasking abilities, balancing several projects while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written); able to interact effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and ILS/catalogue databases.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and organize information from various sources.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to represent the organization positively in all interaction
  • Experience creating original bibliographic records.
  • Understanding of controlled vocabularies, classification systems, and cataloguing standards.
  • Knowledge of library metadata, subject analysis, and indexing principles.
  • Familiarity with digital and physical collection maintenance practices.
  • Lift packages and materials up to 15 kg (approx. 33 lbs).
  • Work in environments with increased dust levels.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and move frequently throughout the day.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Mu st be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
