Senior Estimator
Our Calgary-based client is seeking a Senior Estimator to add to a newly created division within their organization. This role serves as the department’s expert in proposal development, bid preparation, regulatory compliance, client relations, and process improvement. The Senior Estimator leads the full preconstruction and tendering cycle, including reviewing owner documents, coordinating and validating trade pricing, ensuring scope alignment, and delivering complete, compliant, and competitive bids.
Success requires strong technical judgment, disciplined procurement management, and the ability to manage timelines for internal review and on-time submissions.
- Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications to assess project fit and develop bid strategies
- Identify scope gaps, risks, and unclear items and working with internal stakeholders to obtain clarifications
- Develop trade lists and preparing detailed bid packages and scopes of work for sub trades
- Manage the pricing process, issuing tenders, responding to technical inquiries, and ensuring deadlines are met
- Track procurement schedules to support internal review milestones and maintaining regular communication with the trade community
- Evaluate and level sub trade submissions to confirm compliance, exclusions, and scope alignment
- Assemble pricing data for internal review, contributing to pursuit strategies, and preparing complete tender submissions
- Lead final negotiations, recommending trade partners, and coordinating with the estimating team on contract awards
- 5+ years in an estimating capacity within a construction firm
- Prior experience working with a general contractor
- Experience with multifamily, institutional, and/or school projects
- Experience on projects over $30M
- Must have hands on experience leading the full proposal and tendering process
- Proven ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
- Experience managing sub trade procurement and competitive bid processes
- Strong analytical skills for evaluating pricing, assessing risk, and reviewing scope
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities in deadline driven environments
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication with consultants, trades, and internal groups
- Confident negotiation skills with a practical and solutions focused approach
- High attention to detail supported by disciplined estimating and procurement processes
- Solid technical knowledge, strong plan reading capability, and established relationships with suppliers and trades
