As a Grant Consultant, you will provide cross‑corporate management of grant files that involve more than one department. This role is responsible for leading cross‑corporate grant applications for external funding from other levels of government or external agencies, while balancing priorities across different services, facilitating negotiations, and obtaining alignment between competing priorities.

This role provides cross‑corporate process development, strategic support and enhanced performance and data management to how we organize, prioritize, apply for and manage grant funding. The Grant Consultant is responsible for negotiating and coordinating with funders to ensure the contextual considerations of the City of Calgary are taken into consideration for grant programs from other levels of government. You will also evaluate and analyze the return on investment of all grant files being coordinated, to help strategically recommend priorities in looking at future funding opportunities.

Each Grant Consultant will be assigned a portfolio of focus, either supporting Infrastructure Services/Operational Services or Community Services/ Planning & Development Services.

Primary duties include:

  • Develop and coordinate the approach for delivering cross‑corporate grant applications.
  • Establish the appropriate governance structure for new and existing cross‑corporate files.
  • Lead ongoing monitoring of cross‑corporate grant agreements that cross multiple departments.
  • Create a positive and trusting relationship for ongoing dialogue and continuous improvement with key grant partners, both internally and externally.
  • Evaluate return on investment of grants and develop recommendations and guidelines for where to focus external funding efforts.
  • Manage and continuously improve the tracking of grant files, capturing all active grant files, pending applications, and potential applications.
  • Serve as the main City contact responsible for vetting federal agreements through the Provincial Priorities Act portal and related internal communications and approvals.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Business, Management, Public Administration, Law, Finance, Cost Control, Engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in project management, policy and program development, applied science or engineering, financial planning, grant funding coordination, and/or strategic and capital business planning is required.
  • A general understanding of engineering consulting phases and construction processes is required.
  • Proven experience in managing the entire project and grant lifecycle - from design and selection to contract, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation - while effectively submitting information within urgent time frames.
  • Experience with capital asset prioritization and investments is considered an asset.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), coupled with exceptional communication and executive writing skills.
  • Build strong, collaborative, and respectful relationships with internal project teams and external interested parties, including industry partners and funding agencies, through effective communication, conflict resolution, and timely reporting.
