Business Development Manager – Calgary

This full‑time, permanent position focuses on promoting Futurpreneur’s financing and mentoring programs to young entrepreneurs, mentors and partners throughout rural Alberta.

Key Responsibilities
  • Convert entrepreneurial leads from inquiry through to the application stage.
  • Identify and rigorously follow up on high‑potential prospects via the CRM system.
  • Attend and coordinate events that provide opportunities to engage prospective and current entrepreneurs.
  • Facilitate presentations and workshops that promote Futurpreneur programs and support entrepreneurial skill development.
  • Assist other programs and regions as required.
  • Work in collaboration with Client Relationship Managers (CRM) to ensure a smooth transition of applicants to the funding stage.
  • Create lead generation opportunities across the region, collaborating with existing and new partners.
  • Manage prospective mentor inquiries and coordinate events to recruit volunteer mentors.
  • Communicate with CRM regarding fulfilment of mentor gaps.
  • Recruit mentors to achieve regional objectives and ensure adequate mentor support for entrepreneurs.
  • Connect with strategic and referral partners to maintain relationships and keep Futurpreneur top of mind.
  • Facilitate partner onboarding; train new and retrain existing partners.
  • Follow up with partners to ensure they have the tools and information needed to represent us.
  • Manage relationship with referral partners and grow partner network where appropriate.
  • Participate in ecosystem partner activities and coordinate events to engage partners and recruit entrepreneurs.
  • Identify potential partners through research, networks and referrals.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (40% of the role involves local and provincial travel).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent focused on business administration, economic development, entrepreneurship or similar.
  • 3+ years of experience in sales, startup business development or economic development.
  • Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written) is an asset.
  • Experience working with entrepreneurs or business startups, business plans and cash flows is a strong asset.
  • Ability to tailor and deliver public program presentations and workshops.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with a Customer Relationship Management system (MS 365).
  • Strong client focus and ability to work with volunteers.
  • Confident, proactive and motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of trends in the entrepreneurial, startup and small‑business industry.
  • General administration experience including budget management and report writing.
  • Clear and confident communicator, skilled at engaging diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative and adaptable team player with a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
  • Strong organisational skills, able to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic hybrid work environment.
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset, embracing and championing change.
