Position Summary

The Senior Advisor, Communications Governance and Planning is responsible for ensuring effective governance of communications collateral across all of CAPP’s platforms as well as being the chief content editor. This role is critical to ensuring CAPP’s ability to clearly, consistently and effectively communicate across audiences, reduce operational risk, and support organizational priorities. This is a strategic, non‑partisan role that builds strong relationships within both the public sector and corporate settings.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure information in CAPP’s communication channels (website, printed materials, etc.) is effectively governed, regularly updated, and appropriately reviewed by subject matter experts.
  • Serve as chief editor for Communications and media relations, ensuring that written materials are of high quality, adhere to CAPP’s style guide, and use effective messaging.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Communications resources, processes, and systems to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular audits of communications materials to assess and maintain relevance and accuracy.
  • Assist in managing special projects and supporting external events and campaigns.
  • Provide Communications leadership with advice on continuous improvement and initiatives.
  • Support the team as an active writer and content creator as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive project success and meet organizational goals.

  • Execute project plans and daily operations by providing expertise, ensuring accuracy, and contributing to broader organizational strategies.
  • Understand strategic project directions, foster team commitment, and use insights from industry trends and regulations to support decision‑making.
  • Manage and prioritize personal performance, tasks, and resources, while providing updates on progress, schedules, and budget impacts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, contribute to team‑level decisions, and gather feedback from leaders to enhance results.

  • Maintain alignment with departmental goals, demonstrate reliability, support change initiatives, and sustain relationships with external partners.

Job Requirements
  • A minimum of five years’ work experience in journalism, communications, or technical writing.
  • Post‑secondary degree or diploma in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Canada’s oil and gas industry is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional copy editor, proofreader, and writer with familiarity with CP Style or similar style guides.
  • Demonstrated ability to edit and write in a variety of formats and for a variety of audiences (e.g., social media, fact sheets, speeches, media releases, opinion‑editorials).
  • Strong research skills, and ability to think creatively to simplify complex and technical information.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating projects and responding effectively to competing timelines.
