The Role

The Truck Scheduler works closely within a team of Schedulers to effectively implement and support the Refined Product Marketing business. The Scheduler collaborates with Marketing, Accounting, Contracts, Pricing, and Analytics internally, as well as external customers and stakeholders to insure the safe, efficient, and optimized movement of products.

What You'll be Doing

  • Oversees multiple locations: highly responsive to fast paced market changes as described by the traders, manage long/short truck positions effectively to ensure assets are kept full and that product is continually supplied.
  • Assists with resolving day to day logistics issues while being proactive and highly responsive.
  • Monitors and coordinates trucking movements to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Supports NGL Trader with rates and analysis, keep contracts whole month to month and communicate to the traders their long/short product positions.
  • Communicates regularly with transloading and loading facilities to determine status of loadings and work through any logistical issues.
  • Assists with margin optimization by understanding trade deals and order swapping and utilizing freight optimization to realize the highest margins.
  • Builds strong relationships through networking with industry customers and carriers to understand key business drivers and anticipate industry trends.
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders in the supply chain to minimize or eliminate accessorial charges.
  • Reviews all commercial deals to understand pricing and to schedule/coordinate logistics to ensure all deals are executed and completed within the terms of the deal.
  • Communicates and negotiates with various internal groups such as contracts, accounting and finance and, as well as with external clients and service providers.
  • Participates in all month end tasks including balancing and reconciliation of inventories to meet accounting deadlines.
  • Monitors storage location to ensure inventory levels are within contract terms and schedule inventory transfers as required.
  • Ensures nominations are submitted monthly.
  • Reviews invoices for payment.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring to the Role

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Economics, Logistics or a related field preferred.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and other logistics related certifications are an asset.
  • Professional CCIT Certified Logistics Professional (CCLP) designation considered an asset
  • Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office system.
  • Familiarity with Right Angle would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to be proactive, self-motivated and take initiative.
  • Exhibits analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates s good communication skills and ability to win over truck carriers, producers, operations staff, and railways.
  • Ability to adjust to changing and conflicting demands, responsibilities and issues.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines in a fast pace environment.
  • Demonstrates a process for improvement mindset.
  • Exhibits a basic logistics background in rail or pipelines logistics.
  • Exhibits basic understanding of the various loading facilities in Canada and

Working Conditions

  • Most of the work is performed in an office environment.
  • Working hours are 8 hours/day Monday to Friday and weekend/after-hour on-call as required.
