Job Overview

The Specialist plays a critical role in providing expert knowledge and analysis that advances AAISA's strategic priorities. Reporting to a Senior Manager, this position is responsible for conducting in-depth research, policy analysis, and providing evidence-based recommendations on complex issues affecting the newcomer-serving sector. The Specialist serves as a subject matter expert, utilizing advanced analytical skills and specialized knowledge to support organizational decision-making and strategic initiatives.

As a key member of the team, the Specialist works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities within their area of expertise. Through comprehensive research, stakeholder engagement, and policy analysis, the Specialist supports AAISA's mission by developing actionable recommendations, informing advocacy efforts, and contributing to the organization's position as a thought leader in Alberta's newcomer-serving ecosystem.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Analysis & Research

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on complex issues relevant to AAISA's strategic priorities and the newcomer-serving sector.
  • Identify trends, gaps, and emerging issues that require strategic responses and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Provide expert insights and analysis to inform organizational decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Develop and implement research methodologies that generate valuable data and insights to support AAISA's mission.
  • Prepare detailed reports, briefs, and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

Project management & Implementation

  • Lead specialized projects aligned with organizational goals, sector needs, and strategic priorities.
  • Develop work plans, timelines, and deliverables for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Apply research findings and best practices to enhance project effectiveness and impact.
  • Prepare funding proposals and progress reports for various funders and partners.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Engage with government representatives, nonprofit organizations, and other stakeholders to gather diverse perspectives on sector issues.
  • Participate in consultations, working groups, and forums to represent AAISA's position on key issues within area of expertise.
  • Facilitate discussions and workshops to capture insights from sector partners and community groups.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate specialized knowledge into solutions for AAISA's membership and the settlement sector.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to enhance AAISA's influence and impact.
  • Develop actionable, evidence-based recommendations that align with AAISA's mission and strategic goals.
  • Prepare both written and spoken materials for internal and external audiences to communicate complex information effectively.
  • Support AAISA's advocacy efforts by providing expert analysis on issues that impact the newcomer-serving sector.
  • Present findings and recommendations at relevant conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • Evaluate the impact of existing and proposed policies or initiatives on newcomer integration and service delivery.

Periodically perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support the team and organizational objectives.
