Overview
Applied Music Instructor (Jazz Percussion), Faculty of Arts and Science. Ambrose University invites qualified applicants to submit teaching resumes for an Applied Music instructor position in jazz percussion. The successful applicant will provide private percussion lessons, support student learning through performance preparation and lab presentations, and help recruit new students into music degree programs. Applied Music faculty positions are contract appointments for specified terms (usually per semester or academic year).
Responsibilities- Preparation and teaching of weekly, private lessons in percussion on the Ambrose campus
- Evaluating student progress and assigning grades
- Preparing students for Ambrose Arts productions
- Minimum Master’s degree in Music; extensive professional experience may also be considered
- Demonstrated success in post-secondary applied music teaching
- Demonstrated experience as a team player and colleague in a music faculty
- Proven skills in music performance (live professional performance, recordings, etc.)
- Reside locally in the Calgary, AB region
- Ambrose Arts exists as a department within the Faculty of Arts & Science and offers degree programs, minors, diplomas, and elective credit in the visual and performing arts. Interdisciplinary collaboration is valued within the department.
- Ambrose Arts produces an annual performance season featuring student, faculty, alumni, and guest artists in music and dance, on and off campus.
- Music degrees include Bachelor of Music (BMus), Bachelor of Arts in Music (3-year concentration or 4-year major), and a Music minor. Programs cover history, theory, applied music, aural training, and career-specific coursework.
- Applied music students typically specialize in classical or jazz. Ensembles include Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Jazz Combo, with performances during the Ambrose Arts season and other events.
- Graduates pursue positions in churches, private teaching, performing organizations, or continue graduate studies.
- Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check.
- Compensation for applied instruction is based on a standard hourly rate.
- In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority is given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
