Production Apprentice – Vertigo Theatre (Calgary)
About Vertigo Theatre is Canada’s National Theatre for Intrigue and Mystery and Calgary’s second largest professional theatre. Located at the base of the Calgary Tower heading into its 50th season, the complex is home to our administration, ticket offices, and two performance venues. Vertigo Theatre aims to thrill, entertain, and challenge by creating theatre that ignites the curiosity of our community.
Aboutthe Position
To further its commitment to education and professional development, we are seeking Production Apprentices for the season. This entry‑level role offers exposure to all aspects of a professional production, including lighting hangs, sound and set install, props building/sourcing, rigging, paint, special effects, projections, and wardrobe.
Suggested Skills- Comfortable working at heights
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable using power tools
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to take direction and work independently
- Basic skills in at least one area of theatre production, including lighting, sound, carpentry, props, and wardrobe
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn
- Degree or diploma in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience
Hours:
40 hours per week. Schedule will be set with the Technical Director based on production needs and include some evenings and weekends.

Successful candidates will work on one of the following productions:
Sherlock Holmes:
The Hunt for Moriarty:
October 19 – November 19, 2026
The 39 Steps:
February 15 – March 18, 2027
The Midnight Torch: A Detective Murdoch Mystery:
April 19 – May 21, 2027
- $26.50 per hour
- 4% Vacation Pay paid on each cheque as applicable
- Position with IATSE 212; IATSE 212 Collective agreement applies
- Access to building amenities, including Fitness Centre and Secure Bike Lock-Up
