About the Role: Global Calgary's News Department is currently seeking a permanent full-time Digital Journalist to join their team.
Reporting to the Managing Editor, the successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, days, and evenings along with permanent weekends in a role that includes producing, editing, reporting, shooting video and writing content for online and television. This is a Group H position in accordance with the current collective agreement.
You will contribute by:
- Write news content for a variety of newscasts.
- Line up a compelling and dynamic show each day, creating the best content for both live and server-based newscasts.
- Produce local news content from video gathered in the field along with affiliate, national and international content.
- Display creativity in the use of production graphics and other visual elements. Communicate breaking news and coordinate with local radio newsroom, resources desk, national news desk, online and Edmonton newsroom.
- Control room experience is an asset with preference given to candidates with two years or more.
- Research and develop original and enterprising stories and guest ideas.
- Report, shoot, write and edit stories for multiple daily newscasts and for
- Meet multiple daily deadlines to write, post, promote, update and curate local, regional, and national content on
- Report on location and in studio as required.
- Participate in assignment meetings.
- Be a strong advocate, model and mentor for digital journalism and a video-first workflow.
- Work closely with staff based in Lethbridge and Edmonton.
- Participating in Global Calgary promotional and community initiatives.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
- Degree/diploma in journalism from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- At least two years’ experience as a television news producer and/or editor and demonstrated understanding of innovative production techniques.
- Minimum one years of reporting experience with proven on-air presentation, including live remotes and unscripted material.
- Experience as an anchor in a major market is considered an asset.
- Proven shooting and editing experience are required.
- Adept writer for broadcast and online with great online and traditional story research skills.
- An innovator with confidence in making editorial decisions.
- This position requires someone who is comfortable working both independently and cooperatively in a team environment, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with Canadian Press Style and experience publishing in Word Press are assets.
- Willing and able to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows.
- Valid driver's license with a clear driver’s abstract.
- Organized and able to make quick and effective decisions under pressure.
