The Tax Partner - Private Company manages client relationships, drives business development, and leads people management efforts. This role involves delivering high-quality tax services, mentoring emerging leaders, and staying current on regulatory developments while ensuring effective communication and alignment of priorities.

RSM’s Private Company tax practice takes a holistic approach to advising our clients of closely held businesses and their owners. Our impact reaches business owners through business and tax planning at all stages of the business life cycle to help the business; its owners and their families achieve their long-term goals. In collaboration with cross-functional teams both in and outside of RSM, our professionals leverage their expertise in strategic tax planning, business advisory and compliance, all while delivering digitally enabled services in conjunction with our tax technology teams.

RSM’s Private Client Services practice is looking for a dynamic Tax Partner to join our team in Calgary. At RSM, our Private Client Services practice is rooted in strong relationships based on a deep understanding of what matters most to our clients. Our private client service offering features a team of strategic advisors who focus exclusively on helping business owners and high net worth families strengthen their wealth and minimize tax.

We serve single to multi-generational private businesses operating nationally and internationally, in all stages of the business cycle, as well as high net worth families and beyond with complex and diverse financial and tax requirements operating locally and internationally.

Responsibilities
  • Advise business owner clients on a full spectrum of tax services including business and succession planning, wealth transfer planning and tax compliance
  • Manage and oversee the engagement team focused on partnership, corporate, and trust entities. This includes the planning and execution of client tax engagements that exceed client expectations and RSM profitability thresholds
  • Anticipate client needs and collaborate with RSM colleagues in specialty tax areas as well as cross line of business to build client relationships and support growth
  • Participate in prospective client proposals and intentionally plan to build new client relationships
  • Delivers exceptional talent experience by building collaborative teams, developing and rewarding team members
  • Participate in local and national committees focused on building technical expertise and strategic plans
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with clients, centers of influence and other RSM promoters through networking, thought leadership and community involvement
  • Demonstrate alignment with RSM’s core values, vision and strategy while empowering people to work together in meaningful and productive ways across the firm as an enterprise leader.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field
  • CPA license
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience working in public accounting with an emphasis on private client taxation. Most recent years should include experience in leading all aspects of client engagements and driving growth
  • Proficient in entity (partnership, corporations, trusts) and individual taxation
  • Familiar with fiduciary, gift and estate taxation
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to lead collaborative teams and manage a book of business that exceeds client expectations
Preferred Qualifications
  • LL.M. in taxation and/or Master’s in Taxation
  • Experience with private client or business taxation with a desire to grow skills in the private client arena
