Calgary - High Net Worth - Tax Manager
The Opportunity
The Tax Manager role is part of our People Advisory Services practice. You will join a team of subject matter specialists who provide advice to organizations and high-net-worth individuals on compensation matters, domestic tax planning, estate and wealth transfer, and postmortem planning specifically where there are cross border tax concerns. You will have an opportunity to expand your Canadian tax knowledge into niche areas of international tax as well as compensation and rewards.
Our practice works closely with the EY Private Tax, Mobility, Transaction Tax, and International Tax groups across Canada and globally.
As a Manager, you will be responsible for recommending and implementing tax strategies that align with the client’s objectives, corresponding with legal counsel and tax authorities on client issues, and reviewing Canadian personal, corporate, trust tax and information reporting returns, election forms and tax advisory memos.
Your key responsibilities- Identify planning opportunities and prepare correspondence describing the income tax implications of transactions.
- Research client issues that arise from planning or compliance work using a variety of online sources.
- Liaise with the client’s legal counsel and family office personal.
- Review personal, trust, and corporate tax returns and related compliance responsibilities.
- Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency and relevant provincial ministries on client issues.
- Prepare or review tax election forms.
- Assist and manage the administration of personal and trust tax compliance seasons.
- Coordinate with other internal EY teams as required.
- Mentor and coach junior team members and actively participate in their technical development.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

- The drive to pursue and share knowledge to enhance professional growth and service delivery.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn new complex tax concepts in a supportive environment.
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting or another appropriate academic major and CPA designation.
- 5 or more years of relevant Canadian tax experience gained in public practice or equivalent experience from industry with broad experience in domestic Canadian taxation and a willingness to expand into more complex technical areas.
- Enrolled in or completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Course, or another relevant qualification such as a Master of Taxation.
