Location and Compensation

Location:

Calgary Head Office, Alberta preferred; other AER Alberta office locations considered.

Employment Type:

Full‑Time – Limited Term (24 months).

Salary: T3 Level 5, $102,000‑$120,000 per year, adjusted for factors. May receive Northern Living allowance.

The Opportunity

Compliance Auditor – Closure Nomination. The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting for a Compliance Auditor to join the Compliance Verification team. You will conduct audits of industry‑reported closure activities, verify compliance, and support enforcement and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and independently conduct complex audits of operations within AER's jurisdiction.
  • Prepare audit plans, collect and analyze information from multiple sources to determine compliance, resolve problems, and make recommendations.
  • Prepare audit letters, notice of non‑compliance letters, audit reports, conduct follow‑up actions, and execute compliance assurance processes.
  • Compile and document all audit file information appropriately.
  • Gather compliance information from industry submissions and internal reports, create summary analyses, and assist with reporting tasks.
Qualifications
  • Degree in engineering, environmental sciences, or a related field.
  • 8 years of industry experience in environmental sciences, regulatory compliance, audit, or data analysis.
  • Experience in auditing, compliance assurance, or closure nominations (asset).
  • Experience with data analysis and database management (asset).
  • Understanding of AER regulatory requirements, including Directive 088 and Manual 023 (asset).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and technical accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team; strong strategic thinking and planning skills.
