Optimum Mortgage is currently seeking full‑time Underwriting Experts to join our team. Our Mortgage Underwriters are proud of their “Resolution and Customer Service” badges earned and are consistently focused on personal and professional growth. A successful candidate will demonstrate evaluation skills of risk using established criteria and current legislation guidelines, with a customer‑driven mindset.
Your role :- Provide analytical, detail‑oriented evaluations to produce strong credit decisions on sophisticated and complex Alt A mortgage applications.
- Establish profitable and low‑risk parameters for loans, pricing, terms, and conditions with mortgage loans while valuing internal and external client successes.
- Maintain and excel in vigilance within the market risk appetite while adhering to National Bank policies.
- Efficiently analyze and evaluate supporting documentation provided by clients and brokers, staying in sync with industry compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti‑Money Laundering/Anti‑Terrorist financing, Internal Fraud Policies and KYC.
- Creatively invent flexible and unique solutions for clients while maintaining adherence to NBC policies and guidelines.
- Offer mentorship to support Mortgage Documentation Officers.
- Maintain day‑to‑day operations in an exciting paced, sales and client‑focused environment.

You will report to the Manager, Mortgage Underwriting and join a dynamic group of underwriters.
Requirements:- Education: Post‑secondary in commerce, finance or business, or equivalent experience.
- Understanding: Minimum five years of Alt A underwriting/lending experience.
- Alt A underwriting experience is a must.
- Bilingual Communication: Fluent in both English and French.
- Expertise: Understanding of insurer (CMHC and Sagen) guidelines.
- Skills: Solid computer savvy and application skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Relationship Builder: Outstanding and effective interpersonal and customer service skills. Demonstrated communication via email and telephone. Adjudicate broker‑originated Alt A credit applications.
- Emphasis: Steady ability to thrive within a sophisticated and diverse organizational environment – balancing multiple tasks simultaneously with composure and humour, under pressure.
