Position Summary
The Job Cost Accountant will work closely with project managers as their proactive financial partner to provide clear visibility into project’s financial performance, including timely billing, accurate job cost reporting and perform project-level financial analysis to support informed decision-making.
Main Responsibilities
Billing & Cash Flow Coordination
Prepare and issue progress billings, including Time & Material (Force Account pricing)
Ensure billing aligns with contract terms and project progress
Maintain holdback tracking and monitor billing eligibility
Coordinate with Project Managers and consultants on billing submissions and approvals
Identify unbilled revenue and proactively follow up to ensure timely invoicing
Project Financial Analysis
Review and analyze project financial performance, including budget vs actual cost, cost trends, and margin performance
Identify and explain cost overruns, billing gaps, and variances from budget
Reconcile project balances and ensure alignment between cost, billing, and financial records
Reporting
Maintain accurate job cost records across labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
Work with Project Managers to understand project progress and financial drivers
Other related duties as required
Month‑End Support
Assist with project‑related accruals and reconciliations
Support preparation of project financial summaries and variance analysis
Process Improvement & Data Management
Support improvements to billing and reporting processes
Ensure reliability and accuracy of project financial data
Utilize Excel tools or Power BI reports to analyze and manage project data
Assist in streamlining workflows and improving efficiency
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field
1–3 years of experience in construction or project‑based accounting
Good understanding of job costing, project billing, and basic margin analysis
Demonstrated experience and abilities in reviewing and analyzing project financial results
Experience of using Excel tools, Power Query or Power BI reports to analyze project financial performance
Technical Skills
Intermediate‑to‑advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, lookup functions, SUMIFs/COUNTIFs
Understanding of revenue and cost recognition (including deferral) in a project environment
Clear and practical communication to translate financial data into actionable information for PMs
Experience of using JDE and Reports Now is an asset
Basic awareness of IFRS 15 is an asset
