Tax Manager

As a critical member of the Americas Tax Team, you will support the Tax Leader – Americas with respect to income tax compliance and advisory matters, focusing on Canadian corporate tax compliance, tax accounting and cross‑border tax advisory. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance, tax accounting and reporting, identifying tax risks, supporting audits, and advising the business on corporate tax implications of commercial and operational decisions.

Key Duties:

Tax Compliance and Consulting
  • Review corporate income tax returns and related filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable legislation and filing requirements.
  • Review corporate income tax provisions in accordance with IAS 12, including provision‑to‑return adjustments and reconciliation of tax‑related general ledger accounts.
  • Conduct technical research on tax legislation and communicate impacts of legislative developments, rulings, and administrative guidance.
  • Support and lead interactions with tax authorities, including audits, reviews, and information requests.
Advisory/Commercial
  • Operate as business partner to support and identify business needs and provide commercial tax input on business activities, internal transactions, and cross‑border matters.
  • Review and assess cross‑border tax implications, including tax treaty application, permanent establishment risk and withholding tax considerations.
  • Assist with tax analysis related to restructurings, financing, mergers and acquisitions and other strategic initiatives affecting Americas entities.
  • Keep abreast of international tax developments, tax law changes and other emerging issues relating to the relevant regions and provide appropriate advice to internal stakeholders on a timely basis.
  • Support R&D tax incentive programs, working with finance teams and external advisors, as applicable.
Tax Governance and Controversy
  • Assist with management of tax risk and tax governance of the Americas Group.
  • Review tax compliance processes and ensure internal tax compliance procedure manuals are maintained and updated, tax compliance work papers meet “audit‑ready” standards and support positions taken in compliance filings.
  • Identify tax risks and compliance gaps and recommend strategies to mitigate risk and enhance compliance.
  • Maintain and champion usage of various internal tax governance tools, such as the global tax governance portal and tax compliance calendar.
Other
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors to support compliance, advisory projects, and audit activity.
  • Enhance and integrate tax systems and processes, identify and implement process improvement opportunities including exploring and utilizing intelligent automation solutions.
  • Assist with tax projects, Board papers and other tax matters/ initiatives as required.
  • Foster and support a high performing tax team culture throughout the organization with an emphasis on customer, teamwork and personal accountability.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and mentoring within the tax team, supporting junior team members’ technical development.
Experience And Knowledge
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or related field is required.
  • Completion of the Canadian In‑Depth program.
  • Minimum 8+ years’ relevant experience, including large multinational corporate tax environment and/or at Big 4 firms or equivalent with a preference for cross‑border tax experience.
  • Strong experience with Canadian corporate income tax compliance and tax accounting (IAS 12).
  • Proficient Excel skills, and a demonstrated ability to continuously develop Excel skills independently.
