Equity Research Associate – Canadian Oil & Gas Portfolio – Calgary
BMO Capital Markets is seeking an Equity Research Associate to support our Canadian Oil & Gas team in Calgary. The role involves collaborating closely with senior analysts and VPs to develop, maintain, and market equity research products while utilizing technology and AI to enhance analytical workflows.
Key Responsibilities- Build, maintain, and update detailed financial and valuation models.
- Analyze company financial statements, earnings releases, regulatory filings, and management transcripts.
- Monitor industry developments, company‑specific news, and macro drivers relevant to coverage.
- Support the preparation of equity research reports and, over time, contribute to investment theses.
- Respond to ad hoc data, analysis, and information requests from internal and external clients.
- Maintain and analyze industry and company‑level datasets.
- Participate in site visits, management meetings, and industry events.
- Communicate investment views and recommendations to analysts, portfolio managers, and clients.
- Apply AI tools and automation to improve research workflows, data processing, and analytical output.
- Strong analytical, writing, and modeling skills with a demonstrated interest in equity research or finance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Professionalism and confidence interacting with company management teams and investment professionals.
- Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to learn quickly.
- Self‑motivation and comfort with non‑standard working hours, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Bloomberg, Fact Set, or similar tools is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools to enhance productivity, analysis, or research quality.
- Prior consumer products industry experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Degree in finance, economics, or a related field is an asset.
- CFA designation or progress toward the CFA program is a strong advantage.
The salary range for this role is $110,000 to $115,000 CAD, based on the applicant’s skills, experience, education, and qualifications. The position is salaried; compensation may include performance‑based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks.
