Senior Accountant ut the role Laprairie is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team in Calgary, Alberta. What you'll do
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Oversee the month-end closing process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial data and provide insights for budgeting and forecasting.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial audits, liaising with external auditors and providing necessary documentation.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity for operational needs and strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Support the implementation of new accounting software and tools to streamline processes and improve reporting capabilities.
  • Mentor and train junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Prepare tax returns and ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations.
  • Participate in special projects as needed, providing financial insights and recommendations to support business objectives.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in accounting regulations to ensure best practices are followed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on financial reporting and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with tax compliance and reporting is an asset.
Nice to have
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial modeling tools.
  • Previous experience in the construction or engineering industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of international accounting standards (IFRS) is advantageous.
  • Experience with financial forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Professional certifications such as CMA or CGA are a bonus.
Skills & tools
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
  • Experience with accounting software such as Quick Books, Sage, or similar platforms.
