The Finance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the financial operations of the Labour Market Development Department through the administration and management of program funding, departmental budgets,financial reporting, and funding agreement compliance. This position reports to the Director of Labour Market Development and plays a key role in supporting sound financial stewardship, accountability, informed decision-making, and compliance with organizational policies and funding requirements.

Duties
  • Coordinate and support the financial administration and management of Labour Market Development Department funding, budgets, financial reporting, and funding agreement compliance;
  • Provide financial advice, analysis, and recommendations to the Director and Program Managers to support budgeting, financial planning, reporting, compliance, and informed decision-making;
  • Review, reconcile, and monitor financial reports, claims, budgets, audit documentation, and supporting financial records to ensure accuracy, accountability, and compliance with funding agreements;
  • Develop and maintain financial tracking tools, reporting systems, and budget monitoring processes to support effective financial management;
  • Prepare financial reports, reconciliations, journal entries, correspondence, and supporting documentation using Sage and other financial systems;
  • Support the development, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting of departmental budgets, work plans, and funding agreements while identifying and communicating financial risks and compliance issues;
  • Provide financial guidance, training, and technical support to First Nation representatives and departmental staff to strengthen financial reporting capacity and funding agreement compliance;
  • Conduct financial monitoring, documentation reviews, and community visits to assess financial accountability and compliance with funding requirements;
  • Collaborate with internal departments, member First Nations, Political Territorial Organizations (PTOs), funding partners, and government representatives to support program delivery and financial stewardship;
  • Maintain accurate financial records, electronic filing systems, and program documentation in accordance with organizational policies and funding requirements;
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, conferences, and community visits as required; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum three years' experience in financial administration, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, funding agreement administration, or a related field;
  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related discipline;
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, funding agreements, audit processes, financial controls, and compliance requirements;
  • Experience working with First Nations, Indigenous organizations, government-funded programs, or not-for-profit organizations is considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant programs and software), Sage financial software, and the ability to learn new technologies and tools;
  • Be able to provide a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) report completed within the last six (6) months;
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License, insurable under the organization’s vehicle insurance policy, and be willing and able to travel regularly for work-related events, meetings, and other duties as required.

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and recordkeeping;
  • Ability to provide financial guidance, coaching, and technical support to community representatives and departmental staff;
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative interdisciplinary team;
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all situations;
  • Willingness to travel as required; and
  • Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin, or willingness to learn
