Settlements Analyst (Contract
- Hybrid)
Our client, a prominent Calgary energy entity, is seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Senior Energy Settlements & Royalty Accountant to join their team for a 6 to 9-month contract opportunity. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role sits at the center of the organization's Crude Oil Royalty In Kind (CORIK) business unit and is responsible for taking full operational ownership of monthly settlement, pipeline tariff, and royalty cycles.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement based in downtown Calgary (in-office Tuesday through Thursday). You will join a lean, highly collaborative 40-person team, taking over key day-to-day settlement operations as the internal lead transitions into a dedicated systems implementation project.

Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To
  • Lead the monthly processing of Crude Marketing, Pipeline Tariff, Quality Equalizations, and Single Shipper buy/sell transactions in D365 to ensure accurate and prompt payment execution
  • Manage the monthly calculation, cash flow forecasting, reconciliation, and remittance of CORIK activity to Treasury in compliance with Crown requirements
  • Maintain account reconciliations for customer and vendor marketing counter parties, tracking forecast penalties and proactively investigating billing or tariff discrepancies
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while preparing audit working papers and maintaining a strong internal control environment
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with producers, pipeline operators, and internal teams while serving as operational backup for adjacent royalty and treasury functions
Your strengths include:
  • Energy Accounting

    Experience:

Minimum 10 years of accounting experience in the Canadian oil & gas sector with direct exposure to crude oil marketing settlements, pipeline tariffs, quality equalizations, and revenue/royalty accounting
  • System Expertise:
Strong working knowledge and hands-on proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Finance & Operations) to pull source data, process payments, and perform account reconciliations
  • Sector Literacy:
In-depth understanding of crude marketing mechanics, pipeline transportation, and joint venture/royalty workflows (direct CORIK experience is an asset)
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Aptitude:
Exceptional attention to detail, advanced Excel skills, and a proven ability to trace source data exceptions back through ERP systems to resolve discrepancies
  • Communication & Work Style:
Self-motivated, collaborative, and adaptable mindset with the interpersonal skills needed to build strong relationships across a lean organization
