Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Case Management (ACCM), this position is responsible for the case resolution function at the OIPC, which is comprised of the following:
- Trying to settle any requests for reviews and complaints that are referred to the CR team by the Commissioner under the Acts. In performing this work, under direction from the Director, this team reviews access request decisions and complaints when they come in to determine jurisdiction, clarifies and confirms issues with applicants or complainants prior to case opening, and investigates matters under review or for which there is a complaint in order to resolve these matters in an expedited manner.
- Trying to informally resolve investigations generated by the Commissioner (IGCs) that are assigned to the CR team.
- Working with public bodies, custodians and organizations to improve timely resolution of case files.
- Transitioning files that are not settled by the CR team to inquiry by working with the ACCM on formulating recommendations to the Commissioner about whether a file should transition to inquiry or be refused.
- Working with adjudication to ensure smooth transition from the settlement phase of a review or complaint to inquiry.
- Working with other teams in the office on ways to improve timelier reviews and management of complaints by the CR team including through the use of technology, such as AI.
- Identifying trends and issues concerning non-compliance by public bodies, custodians and organizations and reporting them to senior leadership.
