Description

The Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Product Translation Project Manager. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Associate Director of Product Translation.

The Riddell Centre's mission is to reduce the burden of cancer and improve patient outcomes through the rapid development and testing of experimental immunotherapies. The Project Manager will play a key role in this mission by supporting researchers, clinicians, trainees, and operational teams in managing the complete lifecycle of translational projects.

This senior role carries significant responsibility and autonomy across organizational and administrative domains. The Project Manager will collaborate with Riddell Centre members, colleagues across the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services, and partners in the broader national and international scientific community. The position normally requires work five days per week (7 hours per day), with occasional additional hours during periods of high activity or project demands.

Key Responsibilities

PM Software Review:

  • Review, evaluate, and implement project management software and workflows to optimize Centre-wide systems, leveraging existing infrastructure and prior project management experience
  • Engage stakeholders to review, document, and organize all clinically oriented projects at the Riddell Centre using project management tools
  • Support project execution by preparing documentation, developing protocols, generating reports, and creating evaluation tools for continuous improvement

Project Management:

  • Lead and support project planning working groups, ensuring that all stakeholders and Centre members contribute effectively to project development, implementation, completion, and evaluation
  • This includes preparing agendas and meeting materials, overseeing meeting logistics and communications, and coordinating minutes and action tracking
  • Ensure projects are planned and executed in an efficient, effective, and timely manner, troubleshooting issues as they arise and maintaining a high standard of excellence
  • Monitor and manage projects through initiation, planning, execution, and close-out phases, with attention to risk, quality, scope, timelines, and resources
  • Monitor project status and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and professionalism
  • Coordinate the evaluation of projects and prepare regular internal reports to the Associate Director and Riddell Centre leadership
  • Draft and compile project-related documents, including correspondence, proposals for the Riddell Centre Leadership Committee, monthly progress reports, and other reports as required
  • Develop and implement systems and processes that support efficient project operations, promote stakeholder buy-in, and provide timely and useful data and information to Riddell Centre leadership and other stakeholders
  • Identify operational issues, project risks, status inconsistencies, and change requests, and bring forward recommendations for resolution
  • Establish and maintain organized archives of project documentation
  • Recommend strategies to strengthen the Centre's programs and enhance the impact of its projects
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Minimum bachelor degree, or master's degree in a related discipline (eg. Biology, Medicine, Nursing, Med Lab Science, Pharmacy, Engineering etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience managing projects of significant size and complexity
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency with project management software
  • Ability to plan and lead projects through various phases
  • Ability to work independently with initiative
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders to enable a collaborative and goal-oriented research centre
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail to effectively prioritize and manage complex projects, helping the team meet deliverables within established timelines and resources
  • Experience working in an academic environment preferred
  • Experience managing in clinical translation or clinical trials, especially from a sponsor perspective preferred
  • Post secondary degree in a medical related field preferred
  • Certificate or training as a project management professional (PMP) or equivalent experience preferred
