Senior Director, Asset Management
An opportunity to help shape the next phase of a growing Canadian healthcare real estate platform
Your New EmployerNorthwest Healthcare Properties REIT is a global healthcare real estate investor and asset manager focused on properties and partnerships at the intersection of healthcare, knowledge, and research. With a strengthened balance sheet, secured credit rating, and renewed strategic focus, the Canadian platform is entering its next phase of growth.
As part of this evolution, Northwest is continuing to build out its Asset Management leadership team to ensure the organization has the depth, judgment, and execution capability required to support long-term ownership and value creation. The portfolio is intentionally positioned around medical outpatient facilities and healthcare ecosystems — not traditional office — supporting how care is delivered while providing durable income and performance for investors.
The environment is collegial and professional, with a strong emphasis on trust, pragmatic decision-making, and empowering senior leaders to take ownership and drive outcomes.
Your New RoleAs Director or Senior Director, Asset Management (Western Canada), you will be responsible for strategic oversight and hands‑on execution across a portfolio in Alberta and Manitoba. Reporting to the Vice President, Asset Management, Canada, this role is both strategic and highly practical — not a portfolio “oversight and reporting‑only” position.
Day‑to‑day, you will drive asset performance through leasing strategy, disciplined capital planning, and asset business plans. This includes reviewing and approving lease transactions within defined thresholds, partnering closely with leasing managers on deal structure and market approach, and assessing ROI and valuation impact of capital investment decisions.
You will also play a meaningful leadership role — coaching and developing team members, working cross‑functionally with property management, investments, and development, and contributing asset management and leasing input into acquisition and development opportunities (without being the primary deal lead).
The role has been intentionally scoped with flexibility to appoint at either the Director or Senior Director level, depending on experience, depth of capability, and leadership readiness. This role is Calgary‑based and includes periodic travel within the region.
What Sets You ApartYou bring a strong foundation in commercial real estate asset management, with real comfort around leasing, capital planning, and value creation. Healthcare experience is beneficial but not required — and would be rare to find — so candidates from office and retail backgrounds can translate extremely well, particularly when paired with an owner’s mindset and hands‑on leasing exposure.
Leasing is a core component of the role, and you will be expected to bring genuine leasing insight and sound commercial judgment. While deep leasing experience is strongly preferred, Northwest is ultimately looking for someone who can operate confidently across leasing strategy, asset positioning, and execution.
You lead with integrity and professionalism, collaborate naturally, and are trusted by stakeholders. You set clear expectations, support teams without micromanaging, and know how to balance autonomy with accountability.
What You Can ExpectThis is a genuine opportunity to step into a role with meaningful scope and impact. The Western portfolio is primarily medical outpatient buildings across Alberta and Manitoba. Calgary is stable and performing well, while Edmonton is a key opportunity area where leasing performance and market perception are being actively reset — success will require strong space absorption and disciplined execution. Winnipeg is lower touch day‑to‑day but includes a major upcoming structural project requiring focused involvement.
You can expect real autonomy and decision‑making responsibility. Approval authorities exist and are being actively evolved to better match the needs of the business; the role is expected to operate independently within defined thresholds, exercising judgment rather than acting as a pass‑through.
