The Role

The Supervisor Control Room is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Hardisty Control Room (HCR), composed of Primary Control Centre (PCC) and Back-Up Control Centre (BCC). Responsible for supervising Control Room Operators and directing remote operations of all Terminal & Pipeline Assets controlled through SCADA / DCS (Hardisty Terminal, Edmonton Terminal, DRU, Other Terminal & Pipelines).

  • Creates an environment of engagement for team members to produce high quality services.
  • Ensures Terminal & Pipeline assets are operated safely, efficiently and in accordance with existing policies and procedures
  • Monitors the staffing level requirements of the Control Room.
  • Liaises with Engineering Services on HCR related projects.
  • Ensures over/short is within Gibson’s acceptable limits.
  • Monitors all product movement associated with assets controlled from HCR.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of training, safety, and emergency response programs.
  • Ensures all Company policies are adhered to.
  • Maintains exemplary internal and external customer relations.
  • Assists and directs in responding to emergency situations.
  • Monitors operations / staffing costs.
  • Provides input into the budget and strategic planning.
  • Liaises with Shipper Services on scheduling of product movements.
  • Assist in employee selection and development of SCADA operational skills and training.
  • Assists in creation of operational procedures and reviews.
  • Supports CRO’s competency development and collaborates with Control Room Training Specialist.
  • Liaises with Operational Technologies (OT) team to ensure the operational integrity of the control systems (SCADA / DCS).
  • Manages Management of Change-MOC’s as required.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring to the Role
  • Industry related post-secondary education an asset.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive experience in Terminal & Pipelines Control Room Operations.
  • Minumum 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of midstream infrastructure (liquid hydrocarbons storage, processing and transportation).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Maximo, Power Bi.
  • Ability to analyze data to assist with investigating operational issues.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely to operational staff.
  • Possesses a self-motivated, team player attitude with a drive for success.
  • Possesses good written and oral presentation skills and ability to communicate well with employees and customers.
  • Ability to delegate authority when necessary.
  • Functional knowledge of the Association Agreement and the ability to maintain harmonious management/member relations.
  • Functional knowledge of Control Room Management (CRM) compliance elements.
  • Functional knowledge of control systems SCADA / DCS.
