Responsibilities
  • As the Facility Building Operations and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for managing the maintenance support of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) facilities, including on-going reactive maintenance and scheduled preventative maintenance. The position also provides leadership, technical expertise and overall direction to this Facilities Building Operations & Safety Section. Primary duties include:
  • Prepare long-term business plans and develop annual goals and objectives for each section.
  • Conduct meetings with clients on facilities support needs & support the work order system.
  • Write procurement documents and prepare business cases.
  • Review the budget on a monthly basis with each team.
  • Monitor facilities related service contracts and initiate new and replacement contracts as required.
  • Approve purchase requisitions, purchase orders, contracts and tenders related to the maintenance of CPS facilities.
  • Coach, mentor, and performance manage employees and support the hiring process.
  • Support, review and monitor facilities related projects.
Qualifications
  • A 2 year diploma in an Engineering discipline (e.g. facilities management or a related engineering technology such as building operations or maintenance management) with at least 8 years of related experience; OR
  • A Journeyperson certificate in a designated and related field with at least 10 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • A Facility-related certification (e.g. Building Owners and Managers Association or International Facility Management Association) is considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires effective communication skills, planning and prioritizing, strategic thinking, relationship building and change management. Strong leadership skills with the ability to plan and prioritize and manage resources.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
