Manager, Environment – Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Full‑time, partially remote. Permanent position reporting to the Head of Human Resources, working a 5‑day on / 2‑day off schedule. The role leads a team of Environment Advisors and ensures regulatory compliance for the Ekati Diamond Mine.

Position Overview

Leading a team of Environment Advisors specializing in Closure & Reclamation, Fisheries & Aquatics, Wildlife, and Operations, the Manager oversees permitting processes, develops application packages for water licences and land use permits, authors environmental reports, coordinates regulatory payments and engagement with Indigenous groups, regulators, and monitoring agencies, and supports mining operations through regulatory guidance. The Manager holds accountability for external communications with regulators and Northern Impact Benefit Agreement partners and maintains the corporate legal registry.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direct oversight to a team of Environment Advisors.
  • Lead the permitting process for new developments and ensure compliance with current authorizations.
  • Develop detailed application packages for site water licences and land use permits.
  • Seek approval for amendments, extensions, and renewals of existing authorizations.
  • Manage and report on permitting deadlines and budgets.
  • Generate detailed environmental reports, independently or with consultants, to satisfy legal reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with Finance to coordinate timely payment of annual land leases, water use fees, and other regulatory fees.
  • Ensure effective engagement with local Indigenous groups, federal and territorial regulators, and monitoring agencies.
  • Hold accountability for external communications with regulators and Northern Impact Benefit Agreement partners.
  • Support mining operations through regulatory guidance and interpretation.
  • Support the Environment Department with regulatory submissions and responses to comments from regulators and communities of interest.
  • Maintain the corporate legal registry, remain up to date on legislative changes and communicate them across the company.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Engineering (B.Eng.).
  • 7–10 years of directly related technical and/or project execution experience within the Northwest Territories regulatory framework.
  • Minimum five years of leadership experience with team development capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and environmental compliance across Closure & Reclamation, Fisheries & Aquatics, Wildlife, and Operations.
  • Proven ability to balance hands‑on operational responsibilities with strategic oversight.
  • Demonstrated success in driving performance through collaboration, employee engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulations, environmental compliance, and the permitting process in the Northwest Territories.
  • Experience working with environmental consultants to generate environmental reports.
  • Preference for candidates with mining industry experience, northern Canada experience, and strong understanding of the northern regulatory environment.

Additional Information

The company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points if the role requires travel.
