The Opportunity

Our Regulatory Team is looking to add an #Energy Problem Solver  in Calgary to manage Environment for our Canada Gas Projects.

Reporting to the Director, Environment & Regulatory, this role is accountable for leading the Environmental Planning & Permitting function for projects across Canada Gas. The Senior Manager will provide strategic direction, regulatory leadership, and operational oversight to support the successful planning and delivery of pipeline and facility projects.

This role leads a team of environmental subject matter experts and is responsible for driving environmental strategy, permitting execution, and regulatory engagement across the full project lifecycle; from early‑stage development through construction and into operations handoff.

The position plays a critical leadership role in integrating environmental requirements into project execution, influencing regulatory outcomes, and ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, regulatory frameworks, and environmental commitments.

The manager must be a subject matter expert and a strong team leader with an ability to influence without authority. The manager ensures the team uses good judgment in planning and implementing work that addresses critical project risks and oversees the planning, scheduling and budgeting of the work of a large team. The manager will work closely with peers in other departments, including IR, Land, Regulatory and projects as with regulators and government.

What

you’ll do
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of environmental planners and advisors supporting growth projects
  • Establish priorities, performance expectations, and development plans
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture
  • Support succession planning and talent development
  • Provide strategic oversight of environmental planning and permitting for pipeline and facility projects
  • Lead development of environmental strategies and regulatory filings
  • Ensure consistency and quality in submissions and technical studies
  • Integrate environmental requirements into project execution
  • Establish strong relationships with project teams and leaders as well as other support teams including IR, Land and Regulatory to identify and manage environmental risks and ensure alignment of strategies and goals
  • Lead engagement with regulators (e.g., DFO, provincial agencies)
  • Develop and execute regulatory strategies to support approvals
  • Represent the company with regulators, Indigenous groups, and stakeholders
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support delivery
  • Ensure environmental commitments are implemented
  • Support transition to construction and operations
  • Identify and mitigate risks
  • Deliver projects on time and within scope
  • Drive efficiencies and value realization
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support governance, standards, and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
  • University degree in environmental, or related sciences (or similar field of study)
  • Minimum 15 years of environmental/industry work experience is required
  • Experience with both federal and provincial regulators
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience with gas pipeline construction
  • Comfortable, diplomatic, and skilled at communicating clearly and influencing at various levels within the organization and externally
  • Ability to lead and supervise others while managing multiple critical deliverables in a high‑pressure environment, serving as a role model through demonstrated technical expertise, strong leadership, and effective interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with environmental regulators in multiple provincial jurisdictions (BC, Alberta and Ontario in particular) as well as federal regulators (Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Impact Assessment Agency, Canada Energy Regulator) and knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory requirements
